This simple discourse introduces by summarizing Patanjali's Yogasutra aphorisms on establishing the Ishwara samāpatti (engrossment on a perfect being called Ishwara, as opposed to upon the emptiness of infinitude). His Holiness Swami Vidyadhishananda offers a traditional interpretation relevant to the theme of Ishwara samāpatti based on several sutra. Ishwara is described in the Yogasutra as that Being who is free from all afflictions, karma and its results, and any subliminal impression other than tranquility. The best English translation of Ishwara, who is omniscient and omnipotent due to immense mental prowess, is God.
